Reduced ES squad takes third at Lexington
LEXINGTON – Excelsior Springs girls wrestling coach Scott Schwab and his Tigers had to do more with less for their last competition of 2025.Originally, the Excelsior Springs girls had planned to take a full squad to the Drew Emerson Invitational, Schwab said. Instead, they “only brought eight due to illness” to the Dec. 23 competition at Lexington High School, he said.Those eight performed well enough to place third in the team standings with 102 points – 5.5 points behind runner-up Lone Jack. The host school won the tournament with 176.5 points.“Had we had our full team, we would’ve captured that first-place trophy,” Schwab said. “But to be in third place with the eight, I’m very, very pleased.”Of those eight, three finished as tournament champions – Bristol Sharp, Nevaeh Happy and Lilly Goetz.
