Roosters wrestle MRVC West baseball title from Excelsior Springs

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Pleasant Hill and Excelsior Springs had something on the line when they met May 3 at Pleasant Hill in varsity baseball: the Missouri River Valley Conference West Division title. Excelsior Springs was undefeated in MRVC West play. So was Pleasant Hill. When it was over, only Pleasant was undefeated. The Roosters won 8-3. The teams were knotted 2-2 until three consecutive Excelsior Springs errors allowed the Roosters to take the lead for good. Pitcher Kian Dollins took the loss, allowing one earned run on three hits, with three strikeouts. After the road loss, Excelsior Springs finished MRVC West play with an 11-0 win in five innings May 6 over visiting Clinton. Excelsior Springs scored two runs in the first, four in the third and five in the fifth for the win. Junior Mason Danner pitched the shutout.
