Schmidt takes third at tourney; ES downs Winnetonka in dual
Jacob Schmidt was only a few strokes shy of par when he and his Excelsior Springs varsity boys golf teammates played in the Oak Park Invitational.
The senior shot a 79 (+7) for his 18-hole, par-72 round at the April 8 tournament, held at the Paradise Pointe Golf Complex in Smithville. Schmidt finished third overall.
In other tournament results, junior Landon Biermann shot an 89 (+17), senior Zeb McBee finished with a 94 (+22), junior Tayvion Kennedy shot a 96 (+24) and senior Elijah Ishmael finished with a 113 (+41).
Excelsior Springs’ team score, 471, put the Tigers in sixth place among 24 schools.
The tournament preceded a Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference-Blue Division dual with Winnetonka of Kansas City. Excelsior Springs won the April 11 home competition 202-217.
Negotiating gusting winds that reached up to 45 mph, Biermann led the Tigers and was a dual medalist, shooting a 48 for his nine-hole round. Schmidt shot a 49.
