Jacob Schmidt was only a few strokes shy of par when he and his Excelsior Springs varsity boys golf teammates played in the Oak Park Invitational. The senior shot a 79 (+7) for his 18-hole, par-72 round at the April 8 tournament, held at the Paradise Pointe Golf Complex in Smithville. Schmidt finished third overall. The tournament preceded a Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference-Blue Division dual with Winnetonka of Kansas City. Excelsior Springs won the April 11 home competition 202-217.
