Scoma making himself known on diamond, mat
Hunter Scoma is making a name for himself as a two-sport athlete at Excelsior Springs High School.
But of those two sports, wrestling and baseball, baseball is clearly Scoma’s first love.
“I have been playing baseball since I was 4 years old and I could do it all day long and not ever get tired of it,” he said.
Scoma channels part of his love for baseball into playing for the Lumberjacks, a club team coached by Excelsior Springs alumni Shaun Marcum and Scott Collins. A member of the club since age 8 he and his teammates play in tournaments around the Midwest. In the summer of 2021, they even visited Florida to showcase their talent.
“The competition level is much higher on the club level because we get to see some of the best players in the country at our age level,” he said.
In high school, Scoma’s achievements have included working his way into the starting lineup at catcher his freshman season. Spe...
