Scoma seeks additional wrestling, baseball achievements
Hunter Scoma wants to keep a few athletic streaks going when he resumes competing for Excelsior Springs High School in wrestling and baseball in a few months.
As a wrestler, Scoma seeks to be a state qualifier for a third straight season. After his freshman season was shortened by a thumb injury, he qualified for the Class 2 state tournament as a sophomore and a junior.
“Wrestling has helped me stay in shape and has allowed me to move better as an athlete,” Scoma said.
As a baseball player, Scoma seeks to help Excelsior Springs win a fourth straight district title. The Tigers won back-to-back Class 4 District 15 titles in 2022 and 2023, and the Class 4 District 13 title this spring. They also finished third at state in 2023.
Scoma was a starter each of those championship seasons. His contributions during the latest title run included five home runs. He has eight total homers – third on Excelsior Springs’ career list since 2001....
