Season ends in wrestlebacks for Happy, Crawley at state
Last week, two Excelsior Springs girls wrestlers got their first taste of state competition.
Analese Happy, a first-year high schooler; and Adrien Crawley, a sophomore, competed at the Class 1 state girls tournament, held Feb. 21-22 at Mizzou Arena in Columbia.
Happy went 0-2 in the 110-pound division. She was trailing Holden’s Adasyn Yoder 5-1 in the third period of her first-round match when she was pinned at 5 minutes, 21 seconds. She then lost in wrestlebacks to Wright City’s Samantha Yates by a first-period pin to cap a 24-13 season.
Crawley went 1-2 at 190. After dropping her opening-round match to South Callaway’s Lilli Lewis by a firstperiod pin, she pinned Sullivan’s Chloe Carson in the first period. Crawley then lost to Fulton’s Carly Foster by a second-period pin to finish her season 28-19.
In team results, Excelsior Springs finished in a seven-way tie for 70th. Kearney took the team title with 80 points – one point ahead of runner-up Brookfield. Odessa took third with…
