Shots fall, but second win eludes Excelsior Springs boys

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The boys in black and gold are scoring more points lately in varsity basketball. They are not, however, finding their second victory this season. In three games last week, Excelsior Springs averaged 49.6 points per game. But the ballclub allowed 62.3 points per game and went 0-3. The week started Jan. 18 with a 69-51 home loss to Pleasant Hill in Missouri River Valley Conference West Division action. A slow start for Excelsior Springs gave the Roosters a 15-7 lead after one quarter. Pleasant Hill outscored Excelsior Springs 23-14 the second quarter to lead 38-21 at halftime. The Roosters went on a 20-6 third-quarter tear to put it out of reach. Junior Colson Moore led Excelsior Springs in overall scoring with 11 points. Senior Amani Robinson and junior Rakai Gantt also reached double figures with 10 each. Next, the team visited Warrensburg, falling 59-44 in MRVC West play.
