Lilly Smith contended for a state title last week. Competing for the Excelsior Springs Youth Wrestling Club, Smith placed second in the 14-and-under 195+-pound weight class at the Missouri USA Wrestling state folkstyle tournament, held March 30 in Springfield. She won two matches by pin before dropping the championship match by fall. Smith was among five Excelsior Springs medalists. The top six finishers in each weight class in each age group received a medal. Audra Mubanga, Brooklyn Ross, Farrah Lange and Kenzlie Covey completed the group of medalists. Mubanga took fourth in the 12-and-under 155 division. Ross, Lange and Covey each finished sixth. Smith, Mubanga, Ross, Lange and Covey were among 12 girls who represented Excelsior Springs. The other competitors were Addison Ray, Kailyn Garnett, Jazlyn Holsey, Avrie Goetz, Lillian Goetz, Jozie Lange and Haylee Ray.
