Sports-related wisdom may come with age
When it comes to my life, Oscar Wilde is usually correct.
Wilde, you might remember from your high school or college literature classes, was a 19th-century writer – specifically, a playwright and novelist – and a controversial figure in his day. Some online research indicates he is the source of this maxim, “With age comes wisdom, but sometimes age comes alone.”
Indeed, I find myself aging, but rarely do any grand insights about the human condition or the universe come with the addition of candles on my birthday cake – if I had a birthday cake each year. Sometimes, I doubt I am becoming more knowledgeable, let alone wiser (knowledge and wisdom are different, I have learned). On the contrary, I find myself struggling to remember information. The other day, for example, it took my mushy melon about five minutes to remember the name of Ray County’s sheriff. It is Scott Childers, by the way.
