Stodden and Tedesco win second straight district title
Shelby Stodden and Malaya Tedesco know what it’s like to win a district doubles tennis title.
And what it’s like to win a second one. On Sept. 29 on their home court, the Excelsior Springs duo won the Class 1 District 14 title. After a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Lexington and a 6-3, 6-3 win over Richmond, Stodden and Tedesco defeated Carrollton’s Madlynn Albert and Joselyn Baker for the championship. Stodden and Tedesco also were District 14 champions in 2022, when teammates Lauren Mueller and Megan Riegel finished second.
“Winning districts for the second time was amazing,” Stodden said. “I am so proud of the hard work and dedication Malaya and I have put in this season.”
Stodden and Tedesco will have another opportunity to feel “amazing” on Friday, when they compete in sectional play at Odessa. The doubles and singles champions there will qualify for Class 1 state competition, slated for Oct. 1214 at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield.
