Streak ends for Tigers in varsity boys hoops

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – One winning streak for Excelsior Springs ended in varsity boys basketball. And then another started and ended. The first streak, three games, ended Feb. 21 with a 58-50 home loss to Savannah. The Tigers and Savages battled back and forth all night, with neither team leading by no more than eight points. The Tigers jumped out early and led 13-6 midway through the first quarter, but Savannah answered with a 9-2 run. The Savages went on to lead 33-28 at halftime. Savannah stretched its lead to eight points midway through the third quarter, but the Tigers cut it to four, 46-42, with just over two minutes to go. The Savages led 48-42 at quarter’s end. Excelsior Springs cut the margin back to four early in the fourth quarter, but the Tigers could not get any closer. Senior Gannon Willis led the Tigers in scoring with 18 points. Junior Trevor Stanton also reached double figures with 17 points. ...
