Turnovers hurt Excelsior Springs in its 61-37 seasonopening loss to Lafayette County of Higginsville in varsity girls basketball.Lafayette County’s three-point shooting and inside scoring didn’t help either.The Tigers committed 26 turnovers during the Nov. 25 road loss. Lafayette County sank six three-point buckets and scored 20 points inside the paint.By contrast, Excelsior Springs scored 10 points in the paint. Overall, the team shot 20% from the field and went 0-for-16 from three-point range.The Tigers scored 19 of their points on free throws. They shot 63.3% from the line.Lafayette County took control early, leading 16-5 after one quarter and 32-13 at halftime.
