Tigers begin quest to equal or top 2023 state baseball run

This week’s home tournament might be the spark that powers veteran Excelsior Springs varsity baseball coach Aaron Holst and his Tigers to match or top last season’s third-place finish in the Class 4 state tournament. The Tigers opened their own tournament Monday by thumping North Kansas City 15-0 in four innings. Officially, Kaelan Bedford struck out nine in getting the pitching victory. “Kaelan Bedford was dominant and continued throwing shutout innings so that our offense could get a strong foothold,” Holst stated Monday. “We were aggressive on the bases, used the bunt a little and had very little defensive stress.” As of this writing, Excelsior Springs had two tournament games pending.
