Tigers blank Griffins, Dragons in soccer

Excelsior Springs returned to its winning ways last week in varsity boys soccer. The Tigers did so by posting back-to-back shutouts, crushing Winnetonka 7-0 Sept. 11 and Cameron 8-0 Sept. 14. Both victories were on the road. Excelsior Springs controlled the possession in its Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference-Blue Division win over Winnetonka. Junior Jake Zapata capitalized on that ball control by scoring four goals. Zapata scored his first goal – and the team’s first goal – off an assist from junior Austin Collins. He notched his next two goals off assists from senior Mason Wartner. Wartner then set up a goal by Collins to make it 4-0. Zapata’s final goal resulted from another Collins assist.
