Tigers bow out in district semis; Stottlemyre leads ES hitters
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Another Excelsior Springs varsity volleyball season is complete.
The Tigers’ season ended Oct. 23 at Winnetonka High School with a 3-0 loss to Kearney in the Class 4 District 15 Tournament semifinals. Excelsior Springs dropped the three sets 25-12, 25-7 and 25-7.
The squad finished 5-19-1 overall, picking up wins against Lexington, Richmond, Van Horn, Oak Grove and Center. The Tigers went 2-5 in Missouri River Valley Conference West Division play – their last in their latest affiliation with the MRVC. After 16 years, they are leaving the conference for the Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference.
Offensively, senior Rylie Stottlemyre led Excelsior Springs this season with 176 kills, followed by senior Kyli Crowley with 153. Other hitters included junior Rowyn Pekarek with 90 kills, junior Kara Lindley with 33 and sophomore Baylee O’Dell with 30.
