Tigers devour Cards, snap losing skid

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Tigers looked to snap a three-game losing skid when they faced Clinton Oct. 2 for homecoming. They made that happen. Scoring early and often on, the Tigers rolled to a 45-0 win over the Cardinals. The Missouri River Valley Conference West Division victory put Excelsior Springs at 2-3 overall entering Friday’s MRVC West road meeting with Oak Grove. The Tigers started scoring shortly after receiving the opening kickoff. It took only three plays for junior quarterback Dacey Hall to race 35 yards to the end zone to put the Tigers up 6-0 with 10 minutes, 48 seconds left in the first quarter. Excelsior Springs’ defense held the Cardinals on Clinton’s first drive, allowing 20 yards on five plays before senior Gunner Zirjacks and sophomore Amani Robinson stopped a fourth-and-2 attempt at the Tigers’ 32-yard line. The defensive stand set up senior Tanner Phillips’ 72-yard race down the sideline for a touchdown that made it 12-0 with 7:13 remaining in the quarter. …
