Softballers clang out hits in wins before hitting skid
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Before playing in last week’s Ozark Fall Festival, Excelsior Springs was on a scoring tear and a winning tear in varsity softball.
Playing in three games in three days, the Tigers went 2-1, posting wins over William Chrisman of Independence and Harrisonville. They scored a combined 31 runs in their two victories.
Excelsior Springs exploded for a nine-run first inning in getting its 15-5 Sept. 7 home win over Chrisman. Chrisman tacked up a run in the top of the first. Junior Daelyn Williams sparked Excelsior Springs’ scoring in the bottom of the inning by driving in junior Karli Shipman on a single to center field. Senior Mallory Millsap then scored on a wild pitch. Sophomore Chloe Carlyle got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Williams.
