EXCELSIOR SPRINGS Ball security might be a focal point for the Excelsior Springs varsity boys basketball team moving forward, based on the Tigers’ two most recent losses.Excelsior Springs (0-7) committed 41 combined turnovers in those two defeats – 22 during an 83-36 Dec. 17 home fall to Truman of Independence and 19 during a 79-30 Dec. 19 road tumble to Raytown South.Truman took control with a 22-0 opening run. The Patriots led 27-4 after one quarter. Truman then led 4922 at halftime.The Patriots scored 37 total points off turnovers.Senior Jake Zapata and sophomore Owen O’Dell led the Tigers in scoring with 10 points each. Other scorers were junior Brody Querry with six points, seniors Landon Biermann and Easton Ryan with four each, and senior Klayton Glaspy with two.Like Truman, Ray South took control early, leading 36-6 after one quarter. ...
