Tigers fall to Smithville

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Sometimes in basketball, there are nights when a team runs into an opponent that has a hot night of shooting.

That happened to the Excelsior Springs varsity boys Feb. 10, when the Tigers hosted Smithville.

Using a barrage of three-point shots, the Warriors dominated the Tigers in a 91-31 runaway. The Warriors never hit a cold streak, scoring 25 points in the first and second quarters to build a 50-16 halftime lead. The red-hot shooting continued in the third quarter, as Smithville put up 23 more points to take a 73-21 lead into the fourth quarter. Smithville’s shooting barrage continued in the final quarter, as the Warriors outscored the Tigers 18-10.

The Warriors made 13 of 34 treys, or 38.2%. By contrast, the Tigers were 4-for-19 on three-point attempts, or 21.1%.

Excelsior Springs shot 19.6% overall from the field. Smithville shot 47.8%.
