Tigers go for gold at Olympic-themed soccer camp
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Coach Zac Ganzer and his Tigers got into the Olympic spirit during last week’s high school boys soccer camp at Tiger Stadium.
In a nod to the latest Summer Olympics, slated to conclude Sunday in Tokyo, the Tigers continued a program tradition by staging their own mock-Olympiad. During their four-day camp, they participated in events such as 2-v-2 playoffs; goal-finishing playoffs; soccer tennis; a soccer version of horseshoes, known as Wobblrs, after the company that makes the stand-up targets; and “a crossbar competition,” Ganzer said.
“We ultimately want them to come ready to go for … Day 1 in camp,” he said. “But we also want (them) to be smart about … taking care of their bodies and making sure they’re getting in good shape, but the right shape and staying healthy.
