Tigers look to trio of state qualifiers to lead them

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Tigers will have a mixture of experience and youth this spring when, or if, they hit the track. “If” remains a huge question, with models suggesting the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, will not hit a peak until mid-May in Missouri. If social distancing is required until then, there will be almost no chance to complete the regular school year, including sports seasons. The Tigers hope to return three state qualifiers: Carrie Rainey in the 100-meter high hurdles, Michael Rebello in the 1,600 and 3200, and Breyden Haight in the javelin. Rainey hurdled her way to third place at the 2019 Class 4 meet. Rebello finished second in both of his races. Seniors Dalton Love and Ethan Cole, along with Rebello, form a sectional qualifying 1,600 relay team. “We are definitely young in spots but have the opportunity to lean on our upperclassmen to step up as leaders,” head coach Jonah Albertson said.
