Tigers punch ticket for state semis
ROGERSVILLE – The Tigers are going to the state semifinals again in boys soccer.
Excelsior Springs advanced to the Class 2 semis with a 3-2 shootout victory Nov. 13 on the road over Logan-Rogersville. It is the Tigers’ first final four appearance since their Class 2 state runner-up finish in 2004.
The Tigers had to rally to force overtime and the eventual shootout. Logan-Rogersville scored in the 13th minute and made it 2-0 Wildcats in the 54th minute on a penalty kick following a handball called against the Tigers in Excelsior Springs’ 18-yard box.
The Tigers struck back in the 55th minute, when freshman Kollin Kincaid connected with freshman Jacob Zapata for a goal. Zapata struck again when a shot rebounded off the Logan-Rogersville keeper right to Zapata’s foot to knot it at 2 in the 63rd minute.
