Tigers reflect on football season with banquet, awards ceremony
On Dec. 15, Excelsior Springs formally ended its high school football season.
That night in the high school commons area, the Tigers held their annual banquet and awards ceremony.
The event capped a campaign in which senior Ryan Gluhm was honored by the Missouri State Football Coaches Association as a Class 4 third-team, all-state selection. Gluhm also was among six Tigers to receive all-district honors. Completing the group were fellow seniors Lance Bown, Andrew DeOrnellis, Rakai Gantt, Chance Moreland and Carson Polley.
Other postseason honors included 11 all-conference selections for the Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference-Blue Division. Firstteam selections were Bown, Gantt, Gluhm and Moreland. Secondteam selections were DeOrnellis, Polley and junior Jacob Bright. Senior Blake Barber, junior Lane Crowley and sophomore Carson Jackson received honorable mention.
The honors followed a 4-7 season. Over those 11 games, the Tigers averaged 26.5 points per game and allowed 31.2 points per game.
Offensively, the Tigers rushed for 3,078 total yards. Moreland led the rushing attack with 1,330 yards.
Moreland also led the team with 18 touchdowns. Gantt was second with 12 touchdowns. Jackson scored five touchdowns.
DeOrnellis led the defense with 40 tackles. Other contributors included sophomore Dominic Rogers with 36.5 tackles and sophomore Dawson Claypole with 33 stops.
