Tigers softballers end losing streak with thriller
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Tigers’ 10-game losing streak in varsity softball ended in dramatic fashion last week.
With the score 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning against Notre Dame de Sion, junior catcher Daelyn Williams bounced a two-out, bases-loaded single off the fence to drive in the winning run of the Sept. 29 non-conference home meeting.
The Storm picked up single runs in the first and fourth innings. Because Sion pitcher Hannah Lange was keeping the Excelsior Springs bats quiet, it appeared those runs might be enough to down the Tigers.
But then, freshman Alyssa Dean singled and scored on a sacrifice fly by senior Aracely Lopez in the fifth to make it a one-run ballgame. In the bottom of the seventh, Lange lost control and walked three before Williams’ game-winning blast off the wall.
