Tigers sweep Highway 92 Meet

Excelsior Springs made a clean sweep of the Highway 92 Meet. The Tigers won the boys portion of the track and field competition, held April 13 at Tiger Stadium, with 266.5 points – 124.5 points ahead of runner-up Lathrop. The boys won 11 events en route to claiming the title. Sparked by wins in five events, the Excelsior Springs girls won with 188 points. In addition, the Tigers set 66 personal records, according to coach Jonah Albertson. “That is impressive, considering the wind we had to contend with all night,” Albertson said. Senior Gavin Wilmes led the boys team in the running events, winning the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.33 seconds and the 300 intermediate hurdles in 42.55. In other individual running results, senior Rakai Gantt won the 400 in 52.35. And after trailing the first three laps of the 1,600, junior Mason Wartner claimed the lead during the final lap and won in 4:55.9. Dalton Layton led the boys in the field events.
