Tigers’ tennis streak ends
Excelsior Springs’ streak of dual sweeps in varsity girls tennis has ended.
But the girls haven’t stopped winning.
The Tigers won four straight duals 9-0. The last one took place Sept. 24 against visiting Grandview.
Seniors Shelby Stodden and Malaya Tedesco spurred Excelsior Springs to the dual sweep by cruising 8-1 in No. 1 doubles. In other doubles results, sophomores Laney Smith and Ananya Carrel won the No. 2 match 8-0, and seniors Lily Long and Rebecca McDade fought their way to a 9-7 win in the third spot.
In singles results, Stodden won 8-0, Tedesco cruised 8-1, Smith triumphed 8-3, senior Megan Riegel won 8-1, Carrel cruised 8-1 and Long won 8-2.
The Tigers got a break from their dual schedule Sept. 25, when they hosted an eight-school tournament, producing one champion. Stodden and Tedesco swept their competition to finish as doubles champions, notching wins over duos from Lexington, Kearney, Cameron and Grain Valley.
