Using ground game, Tigers expect to roar against Panthers
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The roars from Tiger Stadium will likely be louder than usual Friday night.
One reason is because it is homecoming week. The homecoming queen and king will be crowned at halftime of Excelsior Springs’ Missouri River Valley Conference West Division meeting with Oak Grove. Additional homecoming coverage is on page 16.
In addition, Excelsior Springs football fans have not had a chance to cheer for two weeks. The Tigers had a bye last week because Clinton canceled its varsity schedule just before the season started.
The Tigers, 3-1 overall and 1-1 MRVC West, will host an Oak Grove team that is 0-2 on the road. The Panthers, 2-3 and 1-2, have averaged 30 points per game. Oak Grove has allowed an average of 34 points per game.
Offensively, Oak Grove has traditionally run the football. The Panthers have stayed with that attack this season, tallying 1,654 yards rushing.
