Vaughn sees ‘very bright’ future for Tigers
Cody Vaughn shares Coleman Weber’s opinion about the future of Excelsior Springs varsity baseball.
Weber is head junior varsity coach and an assistant varsity coach. With full-time head varsity coach Cale Lyons away on a military deployment, Vaughn served as interim skipper, leading the Tigers to the Class 4 state championship – the high school’s first-ever state baseball title.
As The Standard reported July 3, Weber predicted recently during the Tigers’ endof- season banquet that Excelsior Springs’ junior varsity players would get the varsity squad back to the level of success it had achieved in 2026 “very, very soon.” Speaking after Weber and head freshman coach Sean Coffman, Vaughn told the crowd in the high school commons area the ballclub’s “future is very bright.”
“We’re going to have to replace some seniors that graduated, but we’re going to continue to win,” he said.
