Veteran pro coach supports Webb’s NFL dream

Among those who are pulling for Sam Webb to succeed in the NFL is a fellow Excelsior Springs native who has coached in the NFL and will soon coach in the XFL: Gregg Williams. As The Standard has reported, Webb signed in May as an undrafted free agent with the Las Vegas Raiders. The 6-foot, 202-pound cornerback, who graduated in 2016 from Excelsior Springs High School and played NCAA Division II football at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, reported with the rookies Monday to the team’s training camp in Henderson, Nevada. “I have a very, very special love for him and I wish him the best,” Williams said July 8 at the Excelsior Springs Golf Course, where he was staging the annual Gregg Williams Foundation fundraising auction, followed by the foundation’s golf tournament July 9.
