ESHS grad signs with Las Vegas Raiders

LAS VEGAS – The Raiders just inked a deal with a former Excelsior Springs standout football player. Sam Webb, a 2016 graduate, signed as an undrafted free agent with the Raiders this weekend after the NFL Draft, held in Las Vegas, home to the Raiders since 2020. Established in 1960, the Raiders were originally based in Oakland and played in the AFL, which merged in 1970 with the NFL. In 1982, the Raiders became the Los Angeles Raiders, then returned in the mid-1990s to Oakland before moving again two years ago. Webb, all-state player at Excelsior Springs High School, joins the Raiders after a career in NCAA Division II football at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph – the summer training camp for one of the Raiders’ longtime rivals, the Kansas City Chiefs. A redshirt for the Griffons in 2016, Webb went on to start eight games as a redshirt freshman. In 2018, he was an all-conference honorable mention. He finished his career with firstteam...
