The back nine holes of the Excelsior Springs Golf Course can be challenging for golfers. That stretch can be challenging for distance runners, too, as some high schoolers were probably made aware of – or reminded of – on Oct. 3, when the course was the host site for the annual Excelsior Springs Cross Country Invitational. Excelsior Springs’ runners were among those who negotiated the terrain. Braylissa Whitworth negotiated the multiple hills well enough to place 20th in the varsity girls race for the Tigers. The senior ran the 3.1-mile race in 25 minutes, 59.7 seconds. In other Excelsior Springs varsity girls results, sophomores Kate Houck and Kirsten Stout finished 30th in 26:55.4 and 31st in 26:55.5, respectively; and Chole Albertson, a senior, took 47th in 29:20.6. Junior Silas O’Dell was Excelsior Springs’ top varsity boys finisher, placing 32nd in 21:58.2. William Tade, also a junior, finished 41st in 22:37.
