The Tigers are still seeking their first victory of 2023 in varsity boys basketball. They opened the new year Jan. 3 with a 67-40 road loss to Cameron. And on Tuesday, they fell 76-34 at home to Truman, an Independence-based public school. Excelsior Springs struggled with threepoint and free throw shooting in falling to Cameron. The Tigers went for 5-for-25 (20 percent) on three-point shots. They made just 33 percent of their free throws. The Dragons dominated inside the paint, outscoring the Tigers 36-18. Cameron also scored 15 points off of Excelsior Springs turnovers. Cameron opened the scoring with two buckets before the Tigers got on the board. Cameron then staged an 11-2 run over a four-minute span and went on to lead 22-11 after one quarter. The Dragons then outscored the Tigers 27-14 the second quarter to lead 49-25 at halftime.
