City gives approval to three ICC codes
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS– The city adopted three of the International Code Council’s 2018 building codes when the City Council convened Dec. 6 at the Hall of Waters.
Per an ordinance passed by the council, the city accepted the ICC-published International Building Code, International Residential Code and International Existing Building Code. Issues covered by accepting those codes include homebuyers’ rights regarding the installation of sprinkler systems and fee schedules for building permits, the ordinance states.
Accepting the codes will allow the city “to move forward with implementing those as soon as possible,” Economic Development Director Melinda Mehaffy told city leaders shortly before the vote.
As Mehaffy stated in a memo dated Sept. 13 to city leaders, the city has been operating under the ICC’s 2012 codes. Moving from those to the 2018 codes has taken a different path than usual, she said.
