A $100,000 AmeriCorps planning grant will allow Excelsior Springs to develop a community service model focused on local needs and opportunities for future programming.

Excelsior Springs City Council members recently approved a 2026-27 agreement with the Missouri Community Service Commission for the grant, which requires a 24% local match. Unlike an operational grant, the planning grant does not fund direct service activities but instead supports the work needed to assess community needs, develop partnerships and build the framework for future programming.

The planning process is intended to create a sustainable program model that could qualify for future AmeriCorps operational funding, although the agreement does not commit Excelsior Springs to pursuing an operational grant.

“The purpose of this grant is not to create another city program or take over the work of organizations already serving our community,” said Community Center Project Manager Jesse Hall.
