District ready to get students back at desks
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Excelsior Springs School District plans to transition students in grades 6-12 from virtual and hybrid instruction to classroom-oriented instruction, Deputy Superintendent Jaret Tomlinson told district leaders March 8.
Tomlinson said the district plans a fourday classroom schedule for sixth-graders starting March 22.
“That’s consistent with our COVID return plan that we’ve had and that we’ve discussed throughout the year,” he said.
A March 29 return for grades 7-12 is set, also on a four-day schedule, he said. Wednesdays will be virtual days.
Tomlinson said students in pre-kindergarten through the fifth grade are already in class daily. Westview Elementary, which went virtual when 20-plus students and 10 staff members tested positive for COVID, was the most recent preK-5 facility to reopen. It reopened March 11, he said.
