Excelsior Springs artist alerts world to Kansas City rap

KANSAS CITY – An Excelsior Springs native hopes to help bring the Kansas City metro area greater recognition in the hip-hop world. Jacob Gonzales, 22, whose stage name is Taco-FromKC, left Excelsior Springs as an adolescent for Kansas City and spent time in Los Angeles before returning to Kansas City in 2018. He has released audio singles for streaming and downloading, along with music videos. Gonzales’ catalog includes the 2019 track “Mobby.” Released by 1156880 Records DK and featuring a picture of Kansas City’s skyline as cover art, the music opens with snippets of news stories about Kansas City’s ranking among the country’s most dangerous communities. Other singles include the 2020 track “Hood Files,” featuring JayButters, available on his YouTube channel. This year, Gonzales plans to release “two to three singles a month,” with plans for a summer extendedplay release, he said Feb. 26 by phone.
