‘LET’S GO!’ Class speakers spur classmates on to life beyond school doors ‘
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Lainey Creason avoided sentimentality as she bid farewell to Excelsior Springs High School.
The final speaker of the commencement ceremony May 13 in the high school gym, she acknowledged the class would miss high school.
“But we’re not going to miss all of it,” she said, including final exams, detention and “the petty drama.”
Creason also cited aspects they would miss, including kickball, “shoulder bumps at lunch” by teacher Tim Harlan and “pep assemblies, no matter how cringey they could be.” And she said she will miss school-forged friendships.
“I can just picture the bright futures that we all have,” she said. “And I’m sure you guys can all look around and see the same thing. We learned together. We laughed together. We’ve seen each other’s awkward phases and voice changes, … (and) these people that we’ve seen almost every day for the past 13 years, we may never see again...
