Editor’s note: This is the first of a two-part series spreading awareness about eating disorders and resources available.With National Eating Disorder Awareness Week being observed from Feb. 24 to March 2, The Jason Foundation Inc. (JFI) and Acadia Healthcare are working together to spread awareness about eating disorders. Their goal is to inform the public about available resources and help end the stigma surrounding these disorders, encouraging those in need to ask for help.“The three most studied eating disorders are Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa and Binge-Eating Disorder,” said JFI Division Director and Education Specialist Scott Knight. “According to the Mayo Clinic, Anorexia Nervosa is a disorder characterized by an abnormally low body weight, an intense fear of gaining weight and a distorted perception of body weight.
