Out with old, in with new records for city departments
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Some city agencies freed space to store records.
Per a resolution passed March 21 by the City Council at the Hall of Waters, the Excelsior Springs Police Department received permission to shred some records March 25. The department’s Records Unit needed room “for police records currently being generated,” Chief Greg Dull stated in a March 11 memo to city leaders. As Dull reiterated before the vote, state
As Dull reiterated before the vote, state and city legislation permits destroying “police records that meet their established retention period.” The department has records that qualify, he stated.
In addition, the council approved Economic Development Director Melinda Mehaffy’s request to destroy records being kept by the Excelsior Springs Fire, Human Resources, Finance and Community Development departments. Those records had met the minimum retention requirements.
