Jon Thomas Schey Kroupa, 83, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2021, at his farm outside of Richmond.

He was born Oct. 14, 1937, in Evansville, Indiana. Jon was the second of four children born to Amos and Claire (Schey) Kroupa. Jon graduated from Glenwood High School in Glenwood, Minnesota, where he played football, ran track and sang in the choir. He attended the University of Minnesota, but he had to return to Kansas City to help support the family after his dad had suffered a cerebral hemorrhage.

Jon worked as a real estate appraiser in Kansas City until he began his own appraisal business in Ray County. He served in the U.S. Army.

Jon met and married the love of his life, Dawn, and they settled down on a farm. They loved working together, raising cattle, and tending Jon’s large vegetable garden and Dawn’s beautiful flower gardens. Jon was an avid reader and enjoyed serving on the Ray County Library Board.

Jon was preceded in death by his parents, Amos and Claire Kroupa; sister, Katheryn Dailey; nephew, Kenneth Luthy; nephew-in-law, Justin; and great-nephew, Hayden King. Sadly, three days after Jon’s death, his beloved wife, Dawn (Rosen) Kroupa, also passed away.

He is survived by his sisters, Karen Kroupa of Kansas City and Sharon Luthy of Kemmerer, Wyoming; five nieces, Susan Szopo (Mark) of Jackson Michigan, Patricia Dailey (Birgit) of Wyoming, Michigan, Kim King of Alto, New Mexico, Kelly Larsen (Bryan) of Bellingham, Washington and Katie Moody (Wes) of Hulett, Wyoming; five great-nieces, Karsten King, Bea Larsen, Lily Larsen, Ahnya Ivie and Maye Moody; four great-nephews, Adam Szopo, Aston King, Milo Larsen and Frank Moody; and many cousins in Minnesota, Michigan and Norway.

Jon had a wonderful smile and a gentle voice. He was a good neighbor and friend and will be sorely missed, but he will live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to have known him.
