Lora Irene Chappel of Excelsior Springs died on Sunday, June 4, 2023, in her home.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Chappel; and her daughter, Sabra Morgan-Chappel.

Her son, Jeffrey Chappel, is her survivor, along with his wife Jennifer and their children, Hunter, Hope, Sabrina and Carissa.

Irene was daughter to James and Lizzie Sloan, also of Excelsior Springs. She shared many stories about the town she loved and growing up with her siblings, Bill Sloan, Jerry Sloan (Barbara), Sara Hankins, Judy Stevenson and Lucielle McKown. She adored her many nieces and nephews just like her own children.

When not working at Grieme’s Drug Store, Blenders or Lake Maurer, she could be found at one of the local movie theaters or roller skating. Later, she worked at Whitaker Cable for 31 years, and then at Tredegar.

When not being entertained by her grandchildren, Irene was an avid gambler and enjoyed playing bingo at the Clay Ray Veterans Hall. She also spent many adventurous hours on the road with Connie Rhodes, her good friend.

Irene was a member of Salem Christian Union Church. A celebration of life will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 1, at her home, located at 15019 Salem Road.
