Though memories fade over time, sometimes it still feels like yesterday. The phone call came in, and text messages were shared from phone to phone like wildfire gaining traction in the wind. While we all received the news, some of us couldn’t believe what we had just read or heard. I ran to the bathroom, crying, sobbing, saying things that didn’t quite make sense even to myself. What I did recall and what was known deep down in my soul was the world lost someone who meant a lot to hundreds of people and an entire community. It was the second time in my young life, as I was barely 17, that I’d known someone who had taken their own life. And this time, it was someone I was close to. That death affected so many people.
