Missouri Republicans lose quiet leader to COVID-19
WARRENSBURG – Steve Walsh, 63, Ashland, died Aug. 19. And chances are – unless you are connected politically, especially among Republicans – you never met him.
He did not draw attention to himself. Being smart about his job, he pointed the attention to those party leaders he supported.
Walsh, a stout Republican, succumbed to COVID-19.
His wife, state Rep. Sara Walsh – a candidate for U.S. Rep. Vicky Hartzler’s seat – also contracted the virus earlier this month. She reportedly said she did not get a COVID-19 shot because the vaccine does not have FDA approval (now, it does). Steve also had rejected the vaccine.
Steve served as Hartzler’s press spokesman for a decade. While I served as editor of The Daily Star-Journal in Warrensburg, he helped me arrange meetings with Hartzler and clarified sometimes hard-to-decipher political issues for me, and set up interviews.
