No clear rules for spending virus funds

Officials in Lawson have good reason to feel outrage over the seemingly plodding and distrustful way the Ray County Commission has clung to federal coronavirus relief money that could be assisting Lawson and other communities across the county, but city leaders should not blame Ray County officials. Lawson officials have publicly bashed Ray County for what seemed a petty decision not to release the money without receipts for actual expenses. Lawson officials want their money now. No one blames them for that. The federal government, after all, sent the money to to the state and the state sent the money to the counties to distribute to benefit communities. But what appears to be a simple process is, beneath the surface, a frustrating, hot mess of confusion. Lawson and officials with the other communities that wonder why they have not received money should not blame county officials for footdragging.
