An Excelsior Springs High School senior has taken his golf game to the national level.

That young man is Landon Biermann, who played at the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour 16-18 National Championships. The two-day tournament, which concluded Sunday at the Shingle Creeks Golf Club in Orlando, Fla., featured 81 high school-aged golfers.

“Traveling and playing with golfers from all over will make me a better golfer because I was able to see how good these kids are and how much they practice, helping me see how much I need to push myself,” Biermann said.

Biermann shot an 83 for his first 18-hole round – a 41 on the front nine and a 42 on the back.

“I struggled the first day just getting the nerves out of the way,” he recalled. “But after the first few holes, I felt O.K.”

Biermann shot a 78 Sunday. His round included a 36 on the front nine.

In finishing with a total score of 161, Biermann tied for 25th. His score was 18 strokes behind winner and fellow Missourian Harrison Zipfel of University City, a …
