PLATTE CITY – The high school wrestling season is over for Excelsior Springs’ two sectional qualifiers in girls wrestling. Juniors Jacey Brewer and Paige Barber competed in the Sectional 4 Tournament, held Feb. 20 at Platte County High School, where they hoped to place among the top three in their respective weight classes and qualify for the state tournament. Because of COVID-19 restrictions, the Missouri State High School Activities Association elected to send only the top three qualifiers in each weight class from sectionals to state, rather than the top four. Brewer dropped her two sectional matches in the 127-pound weight class. She fell to Staley’s Chase Kiel by a 6-2 decision, then dropped her consolation match to Marceline’s Gracey Jordan by a second-period fall. She finished 22-11. Barber placed fourth at 132. She opened with a 7-1 loss to Park Hill’s Taryn Johnson but bounced back in wrestlebacks by defeating Marshall’s Michelle Jones with a third-period pin. Barber then…
