ES boys end losing streak
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – A 22-game losing streak is over for the Tigers in varsity boys basketball.
The skid ended Feb. 3, when the Tigers visited North Platte High School and beat the Panthers 63-45. It was the program’s first win since Jan. 31, 2020, when Excelsior Springs edged Wellington-Napoleon 70-67.
A 12-0 opening run spurred Excelsior Springs to victory. Senior Tanner Phillips led the charge by draining two threepointers.
The Tigers never looked back, leading 25-14 after one quarter and outscoring the Panthers 9-2 the second quarter to lead 34-16 at halftime. The Panthers threatened to take control by starting the second half with a 10-2 run, but the Tigers answered by finishing the quarter with a 14-6 run to end the third quarter leading 51-32.
Both teams scored 13 fourth-quarter points.
