ES volleyballers split final week of the regular season
As of this writing, Excelsior Springs still had more varsity volleyball to play.
With a sweep Tuesday of visiting Richmond, the Tigers advanced to play Oak Grove Wednesday at Oak Grove in the Class 3 District 15 Tournament semifinals. It was one of two matches Tuesday in the single-elimination tournament. In the other match, St. Paul Lutheran of Concordia defeated visiting Knob Noster 3-1 to advance to face topseeded Odessa Wednesday, also at Oak Grove.
The victory over Richmond followed a 1-1 week last week to cap the regular season. Excelsior Springs fell 3-0 to Smithville and cruised past Ruskin 3-0.
Smithville’s set victories over the visiting Tigers were 25-10, 25-16, 25-22 Excelsior Springs took the first set of its road match with Ruskin, a Kansas City-based school, 25-18. The Tigers held off the Eagles 25-22 in the second set and finished it by taking the third set 25-16..
