Excelsior Spring netters sweep Cards in season opener
CLINTON – The Tigers wasted no time in getting their first win of the varsity boys tennis season, sweeping Clinton 9-0 March 26 in their season opener in Missouri River Valley Conference action.
“It was great to be able to open up the season with a win,” coach Richie Marsh said. “The boys came out aggressive and took control early, with most of them finding ways to win easily.”
Senior Caleb Hatfield worked his way to a 9-7 victory over Trent Hity in No. 1 singles. Senior Antonio Martinez topped Isiah Conway 8-1 in No. 2 singles and sophomore Joshua Oldham cruised past Abraham Griffey 8-0 in the No. 3 slot. Senior Slade Tackett worked a bit
Senior Slade Tackett worked a bit longer to defeat Dylan Cosky 9-7 in No. 4 singles. Sophomores Colby Mueller and Carter Pitts finished off the singles matches with 8-1 victories in the No. 5 and 6 spots, respectively.
