Softballers go 2-3 while battling heat in Cameron
CAMERON – The Tigers had to fight the elements when they played in the season-opening Cameron Softball Tournament, Excelsior Springs varsity coach Megan Rawie acknowledged.
“This weekend definitely tested us with being in the heat for six-plus hours each day,” Rawie said.
Enduring tests by the elements and opposing pitchers, the Tigers went 2-3 for the two-day tournament, held Aug. 27-28 at the Park Valley Baseball/ Softball Complex.
Excelsior Springs went 1-1 in pool play Aug. 27. The Tigers topped Mid-Buchanan 5-1, then fell to Platte Valley 6-0.
Moving into bracket play, the Tigers fell to Maysville 3-1 before falling 12-9 to Lawson. They defeated Cameron 9-0 in their tournament finale.
Senior Ariana Reynolds led Excelsior Springs in its first pool play game with two hits and an RBI. Seniors Aracely Lopez and Avory Moore picked up a hit, as did juniors Karli Shipman and Daelyn Williams...
